US 17 Combahee Bridge Replacement, Beaufort, SC
UIG’s affiliate design firm, Coleman-Snow Consultants, designed the replacement of the US 17A bridge over the Combahee River and two overflow relief bridges over Combahee Swamp in Colleton and Hampton Counties. The main river bridge consisted of a new, 840 foot long, 14 span, type II prestressed concrete beam superstructure supported on drilled shaft foundations. The two overflow relief bridges consisted of 240 foot and 270 foot long, concrete flat slab bridges supported on 18 inch square prestressed concrete piling.

Platt Springs Road, Lexington, SC
This project consisted of widening the existing two-lane roadway section with open ditches to a five-lane roadway with curb and gutter, sidewalk, bike lanes and a closed drainage system. The work also included improvements to numerous side roads that intersect with Platt Springs Road. Portions of the project are located in environmentally sensitive areas that UIG’s Design Firm, Coleman-Snow Consultants, was responsible for ensuring that the contractor’s work complied with the permits and current regulations.

Squire Pope Road at Gumtree Road, Beaufort, SC
This project consisted of providing a roundabout at the intersection of Squire Pope Road and Gumtree Road in Beaufort, South Carolina. The length of the project is a approximately .4 miles and included redesign of a multi-use path pavement structure saving the Town over $20,000.

Mathews Drive North Widening
Beaufort County, SCThe Project consists of widening the existing two lane rural roadway section with open ditches to a three lane urban roadway with dedicated left turn lanes, curb and gutter with raised planted medians, and a closed drainage system. This project is located in Beaufort County, South Carolina on Hilton Head Island and is approximately 0.9 miles in length. Mathews Drive (SC 44) Phase II improvements commences just north of US 278 (William Hilton Parkway) and terminates at Beach City Road (SC 333). A roundabout will be constructed at the Mathews Drive and Beach City Road intersection. Pedestrians will have access to a newly constructed 10’ wide multi-use path that will be situated on the east side of Mathews Drive. A new entrance into the Tabby Walk complex will be reconstructed to better align the intersection with Cardinal Drive at Mathews Drive.

SC 72 Bridge over Broad River
Chester/Union Counties, SCThis project consisted of bridge inspection and CEI services including quality control on this 1,430 ft. bridge including 2,000 feet of roadway approaches at each end. The scope of services included inspection of bridge work, grading, drainage and asphalt base, binder and surface courses. Three full time inspectors were available during peak construction time and also inspected the epoxy injections for minor deck cracking. During construction of the bridge replacement, the CEI team provided oversight of weekly traffic control, erosion control, wage regulation reports and pay estimate approvals. CEI services were performed under budget and ahead of schedule per the contract.

US 17 Ace Basin Design-Build Project
Beaufort/Colleton Counties, SCUIG’s design firm, Coleman-Snow Consultants, was contracted as part of a quality assurance inspection and construction management team on the US 17 Ace Basin Project to the South Carolina Department of Transportation . This project is along the US17 corridor beginning just south of the Gardens Corner and going north for 8.64 miles tying into to the new Combahee Bridge. The project consists of construction of five bridges, four flat slab bridges and one steel beam girder bridge; and the roadway construction of a new five lane roadway and intersection improvement at the intersection of US 17 and SC 303. The roadway construction consisted of several soil stabilization designs through wetlands, earthquake drain designs and the use of Cement Stabilized Base Course with Asphalt pavement design.
