Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples (Luke 11:1 NKJV).
I have always found it interesting that the disciples didn’t ask Jesus to teach them how to raise the dead, walk on water, feed multitudes or any other great miracle he performed. But they ask him to teach them to pray. Because they realized prayer and communion with his Father were the secret to his amazing power.
Prayer is the means by which God empowers man, giving him dominion. It is the gateway to victory, to an overcoming posture in life. As believers God offers us the kingly status of governance as we pray. It is not His intention that we face life on earth as victims, but as victors.
