US 76 over Lynches River

Close & Detoured. Bridge 1302′ L 47′-3″ W, 10 Span w/ 72 MBT Beams, EB and IB Shafts, Approach Slabs. Roadway: 0.41 Mile Total, Grading, Base, Asphalt, minor drainage.
This Bid-Build project includes a new structure over the Lynches River and adjacent flood plains and removal of an existing structure along the US 76 corridor which is a main travel way from Sumter, SC to Florence, SC. The new structure replaced a 900′ long structure with a replacement bridge that is 1,302′ long x 47.25′ wide with two 12′ lanes and 10′ shoulders. The end bents consisted of 54″ diameter cased drilled shafts. All interior spans included 84″ diameter cased drilled shaft foundations with concrete columns, and cap substructures supporting 129′ Long 72″ Modified Bulb Tee Beams. The superstructure consisted of cast in place concrete intermediate diaphragms, end diaphragms, along with cast in place decks. The approach roadways were raised 6′ and widened to accommodate safer shoulders and new curb and gutter sections throughout the project along with a new river access road that was constructed and paved down to the river’s edge. UIG utilized their fleet of sectional barges and steel mats to install a 35′ wide causeway with fingers from both river banks to provide uninhibited construction access regardless of weather conditions. Sectional barges were also utilized for floating crane rig platforms, drill rig platform, and material storage platforms. This approach to construction access allowed work to proceed with a continuous supply of material to facilitate completion of the project within the aggressive project schedule.
