Miller Road Bridge over Shot Pouch Branch Replacement

United Infrastructure Group successfully completed the full removal and replacement of the Miller Road Bridge over Shot Pouch Branch in Sumter County, South Carolina. Originally constructed in 1957, the legacy structure was closed after reaching the end of its service life due to structural and functional deficiencies.

To restore this vital local corridor, UIG constructed a modern flat-slab bridge engineered for enhanced structural capacity, extended service life, and improved hydraulic performance. The project upgraded regional mobility and safety by re-establishing a critical crossing for local commuters, emergency services, and freight traffic—delivering the completed bridge to SCDOT and the local community ahead of its original November 1, 2026 contract deadline.

Key Highlights & Scope of Work:
Bridge Substructure & Superstructure: Demolished the original 1957 structure and constructed a high-durability concrete flat-slab bridge designed to modern AASHTO and SCDOT load standards.

Enhanced Multi-Modal Access: Integrated dedicated pedestrian sidewalks, curb and gutter, and expanded shoulders across the bridge deck and approach spans to improve pedestrian safety.

Roadway & Corridor Upgrades: Graded, prepared, and resurfaced the approach roadways with high-performance asphalt pavement, complete with updated permanent markings and crash-worthy guardrail assemblies.

Hydraulic & Erosion Control: Installed updated drainage structures and placed heavy riprap armoring along the stream banks of Shot Pouch Branch to protect against scour and long-term bank erosion.

Accelerated Project Delivery: Optimized field sequencing across deck pours, approach paving, and site finishing to open the roadway to traffic safely ahead of schedule.
