UIG subcontractor to Preferred Materials, Inc.

Improvements will include widening the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane roadway with sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and a landscaped median. Widening of a section of the Springfield Canal will coincide with the construction of a new bridge to raise the existing roadway elevations.

  • The project will widen the existing two-lane street to four lanes and add sidewalks, bicycle lanes and a landscaped median, in conjunction with a long-term Canal District improvement initiative. A section of the Springfield Canal will also be widened, and a new bridge will raise existing roadway elevations.
  • “We are widening the canal for future improvements to the canal,” says Lloyd. So underneath Gwinnett Street is the Springfield Canal. We’re going to go ahead and widen that section of the canal to be prepared for future work upstream and downstream of Gwinnett Street.” Heath Lloyd, Asssitant City Manager, city of Savannah.
