United Infrastructure Group was the contractor for the Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge over I-77, a critical bridge supporting the Scout Motors Inc. development in Blythewood, South Carolina.
The new bridge spans 587 feet and rises 36 feet above I-77, and was delivered under an extremely expedited Design–Bid–Build schedule to meet aggressive project milestones. Construction required approximately 1,600 cubic yards of concrete, all placed within a highly compressed timeframe to maintain the critical path for rail access to the Scout Motors site.
By completing the bridge ahead of schedule, UIG enabled Norfolk Southern to secure early rail access and advance construction of the new rail yard serving the Scout Motors facility.
The SCDOT Office of Alternative Delivery strategically advanced this bridge as a standalone project ahead of the larger I-77 interchange design-build effort—demonstrating exceptional teamwork, coordination, and flexibility among project partners, including the South Carolina Department of Transportation, South Carolina Department of Commerce, Norfolk Southern, and Palmetto Railways.
